Puccini e la sua Lucca: Concert Programme and Structure of the Events
More than 1000 events already organised for the next three years, online in the EVENTS section, celebrating Puccini in his native city, Lucca, every day of the year.
The first Festival dedicated to Giacomo Puccini & his music in Lucca
The 6th March 2004 is the date when the PUCCINI E LA SUA LUCCA INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL officially started its activity in Lucca, a town so rich of musical tradition. Composers like Nicolao Dorati, Cristoforo Malvezzi, Gioseffo Guami, Giovanni Lorenzo Gregari, Francesco Barsanti, Francesco Geminiani, Filippo Manfredi, Luigi Boccherini, Alfredo Catalani e Giacomo Puccini. Lucca land of musicians but no one loved as Giacomo Puccini: the greatness of his music is well known all over the world.
Andrea Colombini, the artistic director, has strongly wished that the name of Giacomo Puccini was indissolubly linked to Lucca, the town where the great Maestro was born on the 22nd December 1858.
The “Puccini e la sua Lucca” festival is the only permanent festival in the world.
Recitals, opera selections, special concerts (“The Three Tenors”, “Puccini’s heroines” and many others): all in the most beautiful and stunning Basilica in the very core of Lucca (San Giovanni), all at the same time (concerts starts at 7:00 p.m.), all sporting great nationally and internationally renown singers and pianists. Everytime with a different cast of singers and different programmes, in order to give the audience the greatest possible spectrum of the great immeortal music of Giacomo Puccini, often flanked by the music of other great Italian operatic composers.
A great occasion to appreciate the voice of the greatest Lucchese in the world (and possibly the greatest Italian in the world…) in the town where he was born and lived, in one of the most beautiful churches of the town.
