With the Regional Law 5/85, the Region Tuscany has decreed the Park of the Alps Apuane. This mountainous chain in Tuscany, only for his geo-morphological and naturalistic characteristics, it is developed for around 60 kms along the coast of the Tyrrhenian sea in the areas of the Versilia, Lunigiana and Garfagnana.
The promotion of the safeguard of such an imposing ecosystem, is made necessary since the economic affairs that rotate around the Apuanes are considerable. The marbles of the Alps Apuane, to make an example, is only of quality very appreciated and extracted since by the antiquity; the extraction of this calcareous rock, known all over the world it is, in fact the most flourishing and typical economic activity of the zone
The Alps Apuane are distinguished by the near Appennino thanks to the sour morphology a great deal, with their valleys deeply engraved and the imposing slopes and very tilted. The Apuanes are known for the beauty of its own marbles and for the depths abysses and the great hollow of the subsoil carsico.
The geographical position of the thick one, its exposure and the different nature of the rocks determine the presence of environments how much you ever launch and conflicting, that favor the wealth floristica and faunistica of the territory. Departing from north west toward east south, the Apuanes they begin with the peak of the Pisanino Mountain surrounded by the sharp tops of the End of bird of the Grondilice Mountain and of the Roccandagia Mountain. Going down toward south we find the Tambura, the tall Saddle, the Sumbra Mountain and the Tall Mountain that it confines with the group of the Corchia, of the End of the Arrows, of the Pania of the Cross and the Pania Secca. Even more to south we find the Perforated Mountain and the Matanna from which the valley of the Towered ones is perceived it Extracts in Garfagnana.
The Apuanes are morphologically a complex mountainous chain; the geologic structure in fact, beginning from the Paleocene has suffered numerous changes owed to sedimentations, submersions and resurfacing that have characterized the constitution of it. In general line we can say that the Apuanes are composed from central nucleus with rocks formed him on the place for sedimentation and following metamorphosis, from a stratum (said Tuscan) of non metamorphic rocks that surround the central nucleus and from a frame formed by varied rocks as for instance the diabasis, the gabbris and the serpentine ones.
Very characteristic I am the different series of caves of different depths and thick development characterized by underground courses of water and by spectacular stalactites and stalagmites. Abundant it is also the mountainous portion not covered by vegetation to tall stem; the rocky and steep surface makes in fact these reliefs very similar to the Alps from which have therefore taken the name.
Whereas the morphology of the ground has allowed instead, a luxuriant vegetation is rooted and, thanks also to the actual scarce use of the lumber, chestnut trees beech trees and oaks find their favorable environment forming woods of rare beauty.
