La Mandolata is the realisation of a dream which is born from a love of people and conviviality. The initial idea was mine and that of my sister’s Manuella after having lived for many years in various European cities when we needed to stay in a quiet place on a human scale. On one of those days you could define as rather dull, while we were looking through an old family photo album, a desire came to us to revitalise our grandparents’ old farmhouse which had been abandoned for years. That photo had all our family’s history with their bygone ways and traditions.
It was surely our hearts that wanted to bring La Mandolata back to life … Though having travelled the world and visited other B&Bs, we realised that it would not be sufficient what we had in our hearts to transform our dream into a reality. We would need the help of a qualified architect to do the job.
The whole project was entrusted to Carlo Pucci who interpreted as best he could our wishes by recovering its local roots. The farm cottage was renovated with great care to respect the traditional country style by reusing the stone used for the hay barn, the antique tiles, the beams for the roof and the original terracotta tiles for the floors.
The original tiles were revealed that served to bring light to and ventilate the barn where the hay was kept, lending extra-privacy from the outside. Today they are an essential element in the home decor keeping their functional role of old and characterise the whole cottage, even inspiring its name.

Just as in the old farms, the kitchen is characterised by big fireplaces and has always been a magical place where my grandmother enjoyed making the bread or preparing excellent sweets.
Breakfast has always been an important time for conviviality, and for this reason we pay special attention to it and always use genuine ingredients. Once my grandmother, now our mother, prepared every morning a variety of biscuits and homemade sweets accompanied by bread, jam and yoghurt. Representing who we are and what we know, is the assortment of local cheeses such as the 'Scoppolato' from Pedona, the 'Brandan' recommended by Gabriele Ghirlanda, founder of the Ideal Party.

Let's not forget milk, coffee, hot and cold drinks, fruit juice and seasonal fruit. Breakfast is served beside the pool, or directly to your kitchen depending on the season. This is our story. It is what we know and what we would like to transmit to our welcome guests who animate the Mandolata … in the hope of sparking the desire to join us and hear you say: "No one has more need of a holiday than those who have just had one."

Historically the cottage was lived in by the farmers who worked the land, while our grandparents used it as a holiday home in the summer months...
It was a place of relaxation, silence and for recharging the senses... and it is exactly this we want our guests to experience together with a taste of the old farmers’ traditions.
Fortuitously there are only a few studio-flats, all with mod cons – air conditioning, TV, fridge and composed of living room/kitchen, large bedrooms and bathrooms.

Each residence enjoys a veranda and pergola where one can just relax and contemplate the garden planted out with typical local plants... cypresses, evergreen oaks and aromatic herbs with a beautiful view of the Alpi Alpuane.
The upstair flats, other than the pleasing view of the orchard and swimming pool, invite one’s glance towards the surrounding hills.
The flats are all uniquely designed, and allow the guest to experience an atmosphere of warm hospitality - typical of the area - in an elegant and welcoming context. We wanted that each residence took inspiration from the senses - recalling the colours, scents of the fruit trees and plants that characterise the lands of Tuscany.

FROM GENOVA A12
Exit the motorway at Viareggio and follow directions for Lido Di Camaiore.
At Lido di Camaiore, when you arrive at the roundabout on the Via Del Secco, turn right at Secco and carry on down Via del Paduletto. Following this road you will see some signs directing you to the B&B which is on the right of the road

Take the motorway A11 FIRENZE-MARE in the direction of PISA.
Exit at Pisa North and enter the A12 motorway in direction of GENOVA.

Take the A1 motorway in the direction of Bologna.
Exit A15 towards E31/La Spezia/Parma West.
Take the exit for A12/E80 towards Livorno.
Take exit for Viareggio –Camaiore towards Camaiore.
Enter the fork Viareggio-Lucca.
Follow the SS1 and bear right onto the Aurelia Nord/SS1. Follow the road until the roundabout and exit at 1a for the Via Italica. Turn left into Via Brancola. Turn right into Via del Paduletto
