This impressive ancient palace of the 17th century, also known as Palazzo del Duca, set on the historic main borgo of Tavernelle, in the unspoilt area of Lunigiana, North Tuscany, was a summer residence of Podestà and Este Family (Duke of Parma).
Restored first in 1991 and recently renewed, the palace has preserved the original features, like spacious living areas and terracotta floors, local sandstone portals and doors, stunning vaults and an important niche. It boasts also a wonderful ancient stone staircase and even in a bedroom there is a fireplace, a 'must' for all the ancient Lords of the 1700. The access to Palazzo del Duca is from the main road of Tavernelle.
The palace consists of 5 apartments finely renewed and nicely furnished with some pieces of antiques.
The apartments can be rented together allowing the stay of 8 – 12- 18 persons. Also ideal location for weddings, family meetings and events in fact the whole palace may be rented to a max. of 26 people.

ACCOMMODATIONS
DEPANDANCE – 45 mq – 2 pax
This picturesque little apartment(approx. 45 sqm) would be a perfect “get away from it all” for a young couple searching for privacy and relax. Once entered in the apartment you can reach the loft with double bed, by mean of a wood staircase. The stone walls make the atmosphere very romantic. The small sweet kitchen/dining room is equipped with fridge, small refrigerator, dishwasher and 4 rings stove. A comfortable high quality white leather couch allows to relax in a small intimate setting. Complete bathroom with basin, WC, shower stall and bidet. Tiny terrace for al fresco dining with direct view on the swimming pool area and garden is at guest’s disposal.

I TEMPLARI – 90 mq – 2+1 pax
Crossing the main ancient door of the palace means “jump back” in the past: on your left you find one of the two entrances of the charming apartment “I Templari”. Just from the local sandstone portal of this door there is one of the several signs showing this building has a magnificent medieval history, in fact you can notice on its surface, three knight templar crosses.
This door has access to a small hall with complete large shower/WC and right ahead onto the double bedroom.
The second entrance leads you into the living room that boasts an ancient open fireplace and a local sandstone stove.
Straight on, you enter into the country-style kitchen. In front of you, in the corner, there is an old wood oven for oven-baked pizza party, instead the well equipped kitchen with electric oven, 5 rings stove, basin and dishwasher allows you to cook for the people who love. There is also an ancient local sandstone basin that still works. This part of the house may be considered together with the living room the ex-original kitchen of the whole Palazzo del Duca.
From the kitchen, through an open arch you have access into another room with a chair-bed that is the walk-in closet of the double bedroom. However, if necessary, it can be used as children bedroom. The apartment has all over vault ceilings that make the atmosphere very warm.
An additional large bedroom is located on the opposite side of the official entrance of the apartment. This bedroom (35 sqm) with en-suite bathroom has its own entrance from the medieval borgo through two main doors, one ancient beautiful wood door and one wrought iron door with glass panels to provide safety while allowing maximum light to come in.

MALASPINA - 110 mq – 4+2 pax
This apartment is the most elegant of the whole palace.
On the first floor, the apartment consists of wonderful large living/dining room (40sqm) with double sofa bed. The two windows of the living area have the view on the internal courtyard and the pool. At guest’s disposal are 2 large double bedrooms, 2 complete Shower/WC and an in style kitchen.
Freshly restored and elegantly furnished, this apartment make you feel like the lord of the palace.
In the master bedroom with 2 windows, an impressive four-poster bed and an open fire place make the atmosphere magic.
On the same floor an additional separated double bedroom with en-suite small bathroom (recommended for children) can be added making Malaspina apartment suitable for 6-8 people
For those who want to have a special important experience!

SPINO FIORITO - 110 mq – 4 pax
Spino fiorito apartment is very similar to the Malaspina one.
Located on the second floor, you have access to this accommodation through a hallway. On the right a glass door opens onto a large living/dining room with two windows that make it very bright. Two comfortable armchairs and a couch with an ancient book case supplied with several books in English, provide an ideal reading area.
Back to the hallway: right on your left, some steps down and you are in one of the 2 large double bedrooms with en-suite bathroom with shower stall, basin, WC and bidet.
Back to the hallway: another entrance on your left, some steps down and you are in the second large double bedroom again with en-suite bathroom with shower stall, basin, WC and bidet.
At the end of the hallway a door opens onto the large brand new well equipped kitchen with electric oven, 5 rings stove, fridge, refrigerator, dishwasher, table and chairs, etc. In the kitchen there is the third complete Shower/WC.
Also in this case on the same floor an additional separated double bedroom with en-suite large bathroom can be added making Spino Fiorito apartment suitable for 4-6 people.
LUNI – 90 mq – 3+2 pers.
This apartment breaks the old fashion style of the palace.
On the second floor of the palace, it develops on two levels. On the first one there is the nice coloured brand new kitchen with American style fridge. On the second level you find the living and sleeping area. In the living area a flaming red sofa bed makes a good colour contrast with the oak parquet floor. From the living area a hallway brings you to the large bathroom and to the double bedroom and to the children bedroom. Again here you find the parquet floor. The loft is enlightened thanks to four skylights, 2 in the living area, 1 in the bathroom, 1 in the double bedroom.
Soppalco apartment is suitable from a min of 3 persons to a max. of 5 people.
Both from the skylights and from the 2 windows in the dining/kitchen room you have a wonderful surrounding mountains view.

Coming from Milan.
Highway A1 towards Parma
Take exit A15 to Parma ovest / La Spezia /E31
Take the exit Aulla and go toward the center,
Follow signs to Licciana Nardi
In Licciana Nardi follow signs towards Passo del Lagastrello
After approx. 7 km you will find the village of Tavernelle
Turn left at the bar Il Capriolo and park the car.
Directly ahead you will see the sign Via del Borgo
Turn left into Via del Borgo and Palazzo del Duca is located a short step away on the left at n.77

Coming from Rome
Take Highway A1/E35/E45 in the direction of Florence
At Firenze Nord take the exit for Pisa Nord/Genova A12/E80
Continue in the direction of Parma and after 8 km take the exit for Aulla.
Proceed toward the centre of Aulla and follow the signs to Licciana Nardi
In Licciana Nardi follow signs towards Passo del Lagastrello
